I am a portrait photographer with a deep connection to Mexico that spans over 15 years. Married to a Mexican citizen and with children who hold Mexican passports, my relationship with this country is both personal and profound. My photography career has largely focused on studio portraiture, where I’ve always aimed to capture the true essence of my subjects.

The idea for The Faces of Mexico began long before the pandemic, but like many things, it was temporarily put on hold. Recently, during a lecture I gave in Dubai, the project found new life when I saw one of my AI-generated images placed beside a portrait I had taken in Mexico years earlier. That simple juxtaposition sparked a deeper exploration of truth and perception—two themes that have also shaped my work in The Faces of the Unknown. Over the past few years, I’ve been diving into the role of AI in photography, constantly examining how technology can challenge and expand the way we understand reality. This exploration first took root during my MFA thesis project, Inner Self | Outer World.

Soy un fotógrafo de retratos con una profunda conexión con México que se ha desarrollado durante más de 15 años. Casado con una ciudadana mexicana y con hijos que tienen pasaportes mexicanos, mi relación con este país es tanto personal como significativa. Mi carrera fotográfica se ha enfocado principalmente en el retrato de estudio, donde siempre he buscado capturar la verdadera esencia de mis sujetos.

La idea de The Faces of Mexico surgió mucho antes de la pandemia, pero como muchos proyectos, tuvo que ponerse en pausa temporalmente. Recientemente, durante una conferencia que di en Dubái, el proyecto cobró nueva vida al ver una de mis imágenes generadas con inteligencia artificial junto a un retrato que había tomado en México años atrás. Esa simple yuxtaposición despertó una exploración más profunda sobre la verdad y la percepción, dos temas que también han marcado mi trabajo en The Faces of the Unknown. En los últimos años, he profundizado en el papel de la inteligencia artificial en la fotografía, explorando constantemente cómo la tecnología puede desafiar y ampliar nuestra comprensión de la realidad. Esta exploración comenzó con mi proyecto de tesis de maestría, Inner Self | Outer World
